Bronze sculpture –In my bronze sculpture, the intricate paisley
design appears to have broken free from the constraints of the loom.
Paisley I, Home,
Medium: Cotton Fabric, fabric paint, stuffed felt
Dimensions: 45″ x 23″ x 12″
Year Completed: 2024
Primary Discipline: Fiber sculpture
Description:
The Paisley I is a reflection of home created through traditional ghalamkar block printing on fabric. Inspired by the soft comfort of a floor sofa (Poshi), it evokes the warmth and intimacy of belonging. Yet beneath that comfort lies a deeper story one of womanhood and the feeling of entrapment within it. It speaks to the duality of being a woman: the constant battle on two fronts to nurture and to resist, to carry the weight of responsibility while fighting to remain free.
Paisley II: Rise
Medium: Cotton and wool yarn
Dimensions: 98″ x 47″ x 0.5″
Year Completed: 2024
Primary Discipline: Fiber sculpture
Description
Capturing the moment of transformation and growth, this piece draws on the textures and colors of Pateh embroidery and traditional carpets. Red embodies the fiery spirit of womanhood; green symbolizes growth; yellow stands for hope; while black and blue reflect sorrow, struggle, and limitation.
Paisley III, Release
Medium: Cotton and wool yarn, bronze
Dimensions: 98″ x 47″ x 0.5″
Year Completed: 2024
Primary Discipline: Fiber sculpture
Description:
Paisley III: Release
The second stage of transformation Release embodies deformation, pain, and sorrow in the struggle to break free and unravel. It reflects the tension between power and burden, capturing the weight of lived experience and the ongoing fight for purpose.
Tapestry of hope, The great cypress
Medium: Cotton Macrame Cord, bronze
Dimensions: 127″ x 30″ x 25″
Year Completed: 2024
Primary Discipline: Fiber sculpture
Description:
The cypress, a profound symbol in Iranian history and poetry, represents freedom and resilience. Known as Azadeh-meaning “liberated”-it stands ever green, unburdened by fruit. The transformation of the cypress into the paisley motif, seen widely after the Islamic era in Iran’s architecture, miniatures, and textiles, has deeply inspired me.
This enduring pattern, which has traveled across cultures while retaining its essence, mirrors the strength of women who rise for freedom and equality. Tapestry of Hope reflects the beauty that emerges from mourning-celebrating struggle and hope in the same breath.
